A forever fine memory
Stelios’s Practice and Inspiration
Stelios Karantonas is a Greek jewellery designer based in London. With twenty extensive years of expertise in jewellery-making, stone setting, micro setting, hand carved gemstones and pearls, he combines his high regard to traditional craftsmanship with unique design, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek philosophy—particularly the ideas of Plato.
The Platonic Solids and Cosmic Harmony
Plato regarded geometry as the foundation of the universe, associating the five Platonic solids (the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, icosahedron, and dodecahedron), with the fundamental elements of nature: earth, water, air, fire, and aether. According to his philosophy, each element corresponds to a specific polyhedron, which defines its unique properties and function. This mathematical perfection reveals the inherent harmony and symmetry that govern the structure of the world.
The Principle of Interconnection
An alchemical connection between the seen with the unseen, the sacred geometry of the natural world with its reflection to the conscious, informs Stelios’ conceptual vision as he incorporates geometric forms and ancient symbolic elemental structures of nature into his work. His designs find balance between the contemporary and the timeless, and seek to reflect the harmony and symmetry that govern existence.
Philosophy and Approach
Believing that "every atom in our body and every thought in our mind originates from the same stardust that makes up the universe", Stelios views jewellery as conduits for deeper connections and synchronicity —between the wearer, the self, and the cosmos. By blending galactic colours, aesthetics and philosophy, his work encourages a sense of equilibrium and mindfulness, offering not just an accessory but a tangible adornment aligned to the universal principles that shape our reality.
Craft and Transmitting
His work is created ethically in his central London studio - showroom, where he has been teaching and transferring his knowledge in jewellery making for ten years, guiding students to explore their creativity through traditional techniques.
